Last Hurrah

Reed and I decided to do something fun for our last weekend before school started. We headed to Colorado Friday afternoon after work. Reed and I went to a little pizza place we heard was good. It was a interesting place that's for sure. There was one dollar bills all over the walls, not exactly sure why. When we asked them what the story was they gave us markers and a staple gun to add to the collection, so we did :)

We woke up super early Saturday morning to hike Engineer mountain between Durango and Silverton. We have been before but it was in the dark so it was a different experience since we could see. :)

After our hike we went to Purgatory to mountain bike with Reed's brothers. They take you to the top on the lift and there are different trails you ride down. It was super fun.

After a long day of mountain biking we headed to cascade falls to cool off. I didn't jump in this time but hiked down to the last fall instead to just watch.
It was a fun jam packed weekend but it was worth it and we had so much fun. Now its back to real life since school started Monday and it is going to be busy!

Potato Lake

{Friday July 6}
Our new destination is a place called Potato Lake between Silverton and Durango. Reed's two brothers and nephew joined the crew. It was a short but pretty hike.

The main thing Reed wanted to do this weekend was to catch some delicious fish. At Highland Mary's he left his bait (worms and marshmellows) outside the tent and some animal came and stole them. Reed got some more bait for Potato Lake to catch some serious fish.
He fished all day and I was seriously bored, fishing is not my favorite sport. I took a nap. Took a walk around the lake. Went on a little hike. Took a swim in the lake and Reed still hadn't caught anything. I went over to the boys fishing to see what the problem was. I convinced Reed to let me try. It only took two casts and I had a fish! haha Reed wasn't too happy about that one. He continued to try all night and still didn't get anything where just about everybody else did.

So Reed cooked up my fish instead :)
Reed got up bright and early the next morning and caught 4 fish. Or so he says nobody actually saw them :)
We left Potato Lake for one more adventure for the weekend... Cascade falls. A place where you go waterfall jumping in the most freezing cold water! But it was awesome and so worth it.
 More to come on that later... But it was an awesome fun filled weekend!

Highland Mary's

{Thursday July 5}
Reed and I decided to take weekend off to go have some fun in the mountains while some family was in town. We decided to go to Highland Mary's past Silverton, CO. Silverton is such a cool town I always like visiting.
We finally got to the trail Thursday afternoon right before it started raining.

We had to stop along the way to put all our rain gear on.

 We finally reached the top after 2 steep miles later. The top is over 12,000 ft in elevation. It was still pouring and gloomy.

 The fog was thick!

We pretty much stayed in our tents when we got there till morning because it didn't stop raining and rained all night as well.

{Friday July 6}
We woke up to the sun but you could see dark clouds coming and we didn't like that especially since we were above tree line and had no other shelter.

We decided to pack up camp for a different place before Reed's two brothers came up that was lower in elevation. We definitely want to go back though when its not during the rainy season because it doesn't make it much fun when you are stuck in your tent the whole time.

When we were all scrambling to get in our tents when it started pouring Reed handed me his shoes on my side of the tent and told me to put his boots under the rain fly, well they didn't make it under all the way when I thought they did. By morning his boots were soaking wet so this is Reed's invention to get his boots dry. His nick name is "Mr. Good Idea" after all.
